The Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) stops most companies from making their employees take polygraph or lie detector tests. However, there are some exceptions. The EPPA allows businesses to use polygraph tests on specific employees if there is a reasonable suspicion that they might be involved in activities like fraud, theft, embezzlement, conflicts of interest, policy violations, or breaches of contract. The purpose of these polygraph tests is to find out the truth about any alleged wrongdoing in the workplace.
